Clay Studio Class Schedule
January 2025 Workshops and Classes:
1/02 Layered Vessel Class 10:00 – 2:00
GVR Class (students need to register with GVR—class is listed in GVR winter Course Catalog)
To take this class you must have completed basic mold workshop or have constructed molds previously Using a mold create a vase, bowl or desired shape, you will adhere textured pieces of clay to create an organic piece.
You will make your mold 1-3 days prior to class date and have out of mold and smoothed prior to class. You can use any clay body but suggest Speckled Buff because it reacts well with oxide. You can also use any mold shape. I will list mold numbers that I recommend around the first of Jan. On class day please bring a rolled slab of clay about 14x14" and 1/4" thick to use for your texture layering pieces.
You will need basic hand building tools and a pony roller.

This class will allow you to increase your handbuilding skills and knowledge.
Using templates and tools provided by the instructor, participants will create 6-8 quirky, whimsical pieces they can use to decorate their outdoor spaces. Projects will include such things as birds, animals, gnomes, mushrooms, and a planter. Supplies: 25 Lb. bag of clay and basic clay tools.
Material Fee- $40 due to instructor first day of class.

1/28 Camper Creations Class 8:30-12:00

Recommend that white clay is used.
Supplies needed: clay, basic clay tools, and slip to match clay.

February Workshops and Classes:
2/4, 2/7, & 2/28 Beaded Birds and Fish Feb 4 8:30-9:30 Feb 7 12:30-1:30 Feb 28 1:00-2:00
Using templates provided by instructor, participants will cut out a bird and fish. These flat wall hangings are app. 5" across. You will add high temp wire which will then be beaded once the pieces are glazed and fired. Besides basic clay tools, you will need 24 gauge high temp wire and wire cutters. The studio sells this wire. These should only take an hr. to complete.
Then on Feb. 28, for those interested, we will gather to add beads and decorate our creations.

2/6, 13, 20, & 27 Horse and Donkey Sculpture Workshops 9:00-12:30
Workshop will occur in Clay Studio Sculpture room
Description: Sculpture workshop on sculpting horses and donkeys.
One project per student.
Pre-requisite: Either Intro to sculpture, or Fun with sculpture, or some previous sculpture experience.

Drop Tray, Tapered Coffee Mug using a tar paper pattern, Lidded Box and a Multi Layered Textured Bowl. You will learn how to add handles and feet, apply textures and lots of tricks of the trade!
You will use either BMix or Speckled Buff clay, whichever you choose.
List of required tools will be posted by the drinking fountain in the studio.

2/19 & 22, 2/27 & 3/1, 3/5 & 8 Southwest Storyteller Class
This is a GVR class (it did not make it into the GVR Winter Course Catalog. )
It will be a Pop up Class, students will still need to register through GVR. Come play in clay and make a Southwest Storyteller with kids climbin all over it.
SUPPLIES:
Bring a finished 10" by 10" shard with edges turned up to the first class along with a piece of tee-shirt big enough to keep your creation moist.
Call me if you need instructions for making the shard. Phone number in the Membership book at the Studio.
**IMPORTANT: You MUST currently be a paid member of the Clay Studio and have successfully completed the Introduction Classes to join this class.

April Workshops and Classes:
4/3, 10, 17, 24 Mini Stack Totem Class 9:00 – 1:00
GVR Class (students need to register with GVR—class is listed in GVR winter Course Catalog)
We will construct a 30" totem. Everyone will follow the same design process but can change the look by the type of embellishments you use. Totem will be a winged flight design, consisting of 2-3 slab constructed birds, 2-3 focus spacers and small bead style spacers.
Please bring a fresh block of speckled buff clay and handbuilding tools.
Metal pole for totem stacking will be provided.

This workshop is designed to take your molds to the next level.
$10 Material fee must be paid to Kerry, Amy or Jane before signing up.
You will learn textures. rock making, swirls & random fillers, picture transfer, layering, etc. 12 Person Maximum for this workshop. You need to pick your own mold to use.
Choose a scene or transfer (coloring book), roll out your speckled buff clay. (2) 15 X 18 slabs using Speckled Buff. Place your clay on a ware board covered with dry cleaning bags.
Tools:7215, 7918, 7311, sponge (7904), needle tool, and scorer.
