Green Valley Clay Studio Policy

It is the clay studio of Green Valley’s policy that no alcohol of any kind shall be allowed in the Studio.
At socials functions outside the studio members may bring alcohol for their own consumption.
No alcohol shall be provided by committee chairs or members during a studio approved function.

                                                                   WINDOW DISPLAYS

The Clay Studio encourages artists to display their work in the members' Studio windows. Many GV people
comment on how they enjoy seeing the artwork we produce and the Studio provides space for exhibition in
the windows accessed in the wheel room.

You may place your work in the windows if there is an empty space, but please don't touch or move any of
    the other pieces.

To display your work, ask the monitor for the window key and a window display card. Write your name and
phone number on the front of the card. You may pencil a price or NSF (not for sale) on back of the card if
you wish. The window display supplies are kept in a labeled drawer in the NW corner of the wheel room
(and some are often found on top of the windows)

Any sale of a displayed item MUST be between the artist and the buyer. The Studio is to have no part in
the sale of any of the display pieces. However, if an interested party asks the monitor about a possible
price, the monitor may relay the artists suggested price if one is penciled on the back of the card.

BARBARA KOBLER
GLAZE COMMITTEE

The Glaze committee will have their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 4th at 2 PM in the Monterrey
Room. A notice will be sent to the committee members.

On Tuesday, March 11th there will be a FREE Presentation by the RAKU Committee from 4-5 PM in the studio.
Please come to learn more about the Raku process, see some pieces Raku fired by studio members and ask
your questions!

We now have a high fire dipping glaze (in a bucket) called, Temmoku by Amaco.
It is different than the Tenmoku made by Maxine in Tucson and well worth trying.

Also, we have bucket glazes, Rosie's Red and RR Cream, available  since Linda Touzeau made them for the
studio.  We all thank her for her wonderful help!!

And, YES, the Ripe Apple Red has arrived and is on the high fire shelf now.

I would like to find some people interested in taking care of the bucket glazes and someone to learn about
ordering the high fire glazes.
Please call Mary Maier at 398-6798 or write your name and contact information on the glaze committee list on
the bulletin board to the left of the glaze sink.

EXHIBIT NEWS

Our next exhibit will be at the East Center beginning April 16th through May 6th. So start planning which
pieces you would like to show. If I don't place an invitation card on your piece in the holding room as it comes
out of the kilns it does not mean that I don't want it in the exhibit. It only means that you have picked up your
piece before I was able to see it on the shelves. So if you get something that really turns out well PLEASE put
it into the next exhibit. Fill out a registration form located at the Monitor's desk and place it into the folder
labeled for the finished forms.

NEW CLAY ASSORTMENT

At the February Board Meeting,  the Board of Directors approved a new list of clay bodies and pricing. Careful
consideration was given to each of the three interests in our studio: Sculpture, Wheel, and Hand Building.

Our new assortment will have:

- Three cone-10 clays:    Biz Bod, Los Altos, and Soldate 60

- Three cone-5 white clays:  Hagi Porcelain, B-Mix with  Grog, and Dover White

- Three cone-5 red clays:SB Red, Hawaiian Red, and MR5

- Two cone-5 novelty clays:  Electric Brown and Speckled Buff

During the re-assortment process, pricing was also reviewed. Some of the prices being charged at the Studio
were too low, some too high, some stayed the same and some were completely new and we had no prior Studio
price to compare to.

The prices we charge at the Studio are based on the price we are charged per bag when we order a minimum
of 500 pounds per type of clay, (we do not get any reduction in price on Biz Bod, for ordering in bulk). We then
added the 8.1% Tucson sales tax we are charged, and an average of $1.50 per bag delivery and handling fee.
The handling fee covers the un-boxing, labeling of each bag, and putting them away by the Marjon drivers.
We plan to keep our new pricing the same for the next six months at a minimum. In six months the pricing will be
reviewed and will be adjusted if required, due to inflation, or an increase in the delivery and handling charge.

We, the committee, hope you will enjoy trying and working with the new clays we have selected.

Biz Bod                         $22.50
Los Altos                        $9.00
Soldate 60                      $9.00
Hagi Porcelain            $14.00
B-Mix w/Grog              $10.50
Dover White                $10.50
SB Red                         $10.50
Hawaiian Red               $9.00
MR-5                                $9.00
Electric Brown            $14.00
Speckled Buff              $10.50

             CLAY ASSORTMENT COMMITTEE CHAIR
                                                                            All members:
I have been contacted by the GVR Recreation Coordinator who schedules our Exhibition Spaces for us.  She said
that since the East Center location is a problematic space for Clay pieces to be exhibited due to the possibility of
accidental breakage, GVR would offer us an alternate location.  That alternate location would be at the
Desert
Hills Center
and it will be available to us May 7th through June 17th.  I have accepted that changed Exhibit
space and location.

We will
not exhibit at the East Center in April.  I am sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause for anyone
wanting to exhibit their pieces, but we don't want to see any pieces get broken.  I hope that our seasonal
members understand and will consider showing their pieces next season.

Thank you,
Don Moberg, Exhibit Chair
