GVR Clay Studio Classes
INTRODUCTION TO THE CLAY STUDIO This class is required for Clay Studio Membership. You must attend all three classes. Wear old clothes, bring a pen and paper and $10 material fee. Fee~$45. Clay Studio Members $60 Material Fee $40 Class # 8684 Friday~March 8 to 29~8:30 to 11:30 BEYOND BASICS~Teresa Turocy~ Learn more in-depth methods of clay building such as making trays, using texture, coil building, adding handles, using templates and patterns. Members will create a hump tray, a drop tray, tapered mug using tar paper pattern, lidded box, and a layered, textured bowl. Members $60 Materials $20 Class #8605 Thurs~March 7 to 28~10 am to 2 pm Class #9101 Thurs~June 6 to June 27~10 am to 2 pm Class 9102 Thurs~August 1 to August 22~10 am to 2 pm SOUTHWEST STORYTELLER~Donna Herrera Create a southwest story teller with kids climbing all over her/him. Bring 25# bag of redstone or speckled buff clay, 1 round hoop tool #7205, 1 feather texture tool #7003, 1 clear dry cleaner bag and basic clay tools. Bring a fired 10 X 10 inch shard with turned up edges and a tee shirt large enough to cover your piece. Members $60 Class #8613 Mon.~March 4 to March 25 12:30 to 4:30 pm Wed~March 6 to 27~8:30 to 12:30 MINI STACK TOTEM-Teresa Turocy Members will construct a 30" totem. Totem will be a winged flight design, consisting of 2-3 slab constructed birds, 2-3 focus spacers and small bead style spacers. Bring a 25# block of speckled buff and tools. Metal pole will be provided. Must be able to attend all 4 classes. Member~$60 Materials $20 (paid to Instructor) Class# 9100 Thurs~April 4-April 25~9 am - 1 pm Clay Studio Workshops~FREEIF YOU SIGN UP~~~SHOW UP!!!! Advanced Molds~Kerry Boll April 23 & 24~9 am until noon Prerequisite~Must have taken Intro to Molds Workshop This workshop is designed to take your molds to the next level. $10 Material fee must be paid to Amy of Kerry before signing up. You will learn textures. rock making, swirls & random fillers, picture transfer, layering, etc. 12 Person Maximum for this workshop. You need to pick your own mold to use. Choose a scene or transfer(coloring book), roll out your clay~~ (2) 15 X 18 slabs using Speckled Buff. Place your clay on a ware board covered with dry cleaning bags. Tools:7215, 7918, 7311, sponge(7904),needle tool, and scorer. INTRO to MOLDS~Kerry Boll NONE SCHEDULED This work.shop is designed for new members with less than 6 months in the Studio. Members will learn the proper way to handle and use seamed molds which are available in our studio. Sign up on the education board~12 spaces. The day before the workshop, please roll out the clay of your choice: (2) 15' X 18" slabs that are 3/8" to 1/2" thick. Place your slabs on ware boards and cover with plastic. The Clay Studio is open and available for use by members as long as a monitor is in place. Check monitor schedule before arriving.
- Hours are:
- 08:00am – 7:00pm Tuesday through Friday
- 08:00am – 4:00pm Sat and Sunday
- 12:00 – 7:00pm Mondays
- Effective 1 Dec 2022, the cash register closes at 3:30 pm Monday through Sunday.
~ Membership ~
The studio is open to all GVR members once they have completed the Introduction to the Clay Studio class through GVR or have an approved waiver (for experienced potters). Waiver application may be found on the About --> Studio Requests page. Club dues are $35.00 for new members and are renewed annually in January.
